Week 21 Back to "Normal"
Week 21
Sometimes it's good to be back doing "normal" things...
I had 3 days of mowing! and 1 day of bookkeeping :) - and in between, 4 days of picking up clients and taking them home again.
Just in 2 - 3 weeks the trees have turned fully green and the grass just takes off - with the rain and a bit of warmth.
Janny had done some mowing while I was away but suddenly it gets almost too long for the ride-on mower. Our tractor is still away being renovated/renewed at the practical school. It should only be a couple of weeks now.
That also means that we have not done any rotary hoeing for the pumpkin patch...
Summer has been very late in coming this year - there is a High Pressure system hanging around which is producing cold northerly winds - we've had to have the fire on in the Day Activity workshop and it's almost June!!
(so maybe a late start is possible for the pumpkins)
So, I did the mowing twice - once with the highest setting and again slightly lower - and used the slasher/edge trimmer for the stuff that was too long. All looking pretty good now - and I'm thankful for the nephew's sheep keeping the paddocks under control!
We're also working on the driveway of the house - making it narrower and re-laying some of the bricks...it was laid in 1998 and is mostly OK - except for where they have since laid gas pipes and electricity cables - it ALWAYS collapses if they do any work under it.
On Friday night, a brother-in-law had his 50th birthday - held in our recreation hall out the back.
It was arranged as a "Beer Tasting Event" with a professional organisation presenting different types of beer - accompanied by different types of food and snacks...
It was a lot of fun...the 90 year old had the good sense to just pop in and say hello - the 72 year old kept up the pace...for a while :(
We had a quiet LONG weekend - doing nothing! It is Pinkster day - Pentecost - a public holiday.
Robin put me on to an interesting Youtube cooking site - for crumpets!
They worked!! - maybe more practise required :) and more holes....
They are not a "thing" here. Even at the specialty cooking shop where I found the rings (designed for another purpose), I had to explain to the owner what I was using them for - and showed her a picture on my phone. She'd never heard of them but was going to "give it a try".
Back to my quiet long weekend...
