Week 39

Week 39

This from a favorite writer John P. Weiss : he's quoting someone else, but I forget the name?

There’s a difference between being alone and being lonely. For example, I require a great deal of solitude. I like to read, write, think, walk the dog, and get lost in my thoughts...

...and paint the boat :)

The dents and bruises aren't too noticeable - one passerby commented that "it's not too bad - belongs to the boat".

I still have to do the motor...

oil filters
fuel filter
water pump impellor
oil change
antifreeze
and...
replace the gas cylinder hose (3 years)

There is no legal framework that regulates replacement of the hose. Insurance companies can, however, impose requirements on the gas installation. It is important that you find this out when taking out your policy. Most authorities use the rule that it is best to replace the hoses every 3 years. The hoses usually have the date of manufacture on them, so you can easily determine how old the hose is.

replace fire extinguishers

take the doors off (replace with false panels)

The gas installation was signed off by our boat expert, but he has stopped working on boats. Technically, the gas bottle is required to be on the outside of the boat - but Sander said that ours "is safer than many I have seen", so he approved it - so I now have to find someone who feels the same way - this has to be approved every 2 years in order to get insurance.

Jacoba is looking very lonely in the winter graveyard for boats - she'll soon be joined by others, but I had to go early so that I can start with the house demolition - and moving into one of the apartments.

The kitchen hunt continues - on saturday we went to see the boat and "yet another kitchen supplier"...

We had a nice 3D drawing made - and then found something totally different. It feels early to me, but we need to know where the water, drains and electricity are going before we pour the floor.

The installer is coming this week - to calculate floor heating, heat pump(s) and all the rest - the kitchen is really an after-thought compared to our more pressing energy needs.

1st drawing...

...but we'll probably lose the fixed table and go for this one (yet to be drawn in the computer program). I don't think I need a steam oven...I do most of the cooking so I am able to have "some" say, but not much :)

Tjeerd and I have begun shifting things and tidying up for the winter.

The existing heating radiators are all coming out - to be replaced with floor heating throughout.

The rubber boat(s) folded away... (still not sure if we'll keep that idea)

All the boat stuff stacked away...

We've decided to move into the large 3 bedroom apartment - mainly because our TV wouldn't fit in the small one :)  !!

But, also for the more practical reason that I can begin to insulate the outside walls.

We'll be living in the red areas - living room, bedroom, kitchen, shower, wc.

The green outside walls will be insulated on the inside - it simply means having to remove the heating radiators and building a new inside wall - timber framing, insulation and plaster sheets - with a "breathable" membrane between the new wall and the old. And then replace the radiators. I might also be able to raise the floor (and insulate it) - all in my spare time :)

The footy

On Saturday afternoon we (including Boeke) watched a replay of the WHOLE day.

(Boeke and I watched it live from about 0600hrs)
