Week 40 Too much stuff

 Week 40

Not much this week

It's started - demolishing the floors of the house

...and moving in to the large apartment.

...and being reminded that it is "for emergency accommodation only". But at least we get to see what needs to be done to upgrade it, if only just a little.

We're only going to use about a third of it - an "inner" living room, one bedroom, kitchen and shower/WC area.

We put some temporary carpet over the tiles - so much is to do with energy costs these days - as is the whole of our project for the house. I probably won't ever see the costs back but it seems like a worthwhile thing to do in any case.

I asked the installer about possibilities for the apartments - he thinks hybrid heat pumps are also the answer here - he's working out a rough estimate for when we have finished with the house.

Tjeerd and I also started on the kitchen - salvaging at least a part of it to be an improvement in our apartment...

It really does seem like a lot of stuff (to be shifted) when all the floors have to come out. We're so lucky to have an apartment to move into - we quite often see temporary living units placed for similar rebuilds in our village.

The wifi seemed to work seemlessly - my computer just started working - but I did put in new CAT 6 cables for it and the TV. I'll have to add a few power points here and there, so it will all be a bit more user friendly - bedside lamps and charging stations, mainly.

Even the telephone seems to be working from the base station upstairs.

Our upstairs office may well be a problem until the new floor is finished.

I'm thinking that it may well take 6 months or more - I'm contemplating not using the boat next year - but Janny says we'll probably need it just for a break - as usual, we shall see...

We have "our" boys this weekend - Janny is working - she enjoys it and it saves on personnel costs...

The maize fields behind us have been cleared - they seem to have done it in the middle of the night - with huge tractors with equally huge lighting...

It's not fit for human consumption, unfortunately. It is heavily subsidised feed for cows....

They always leave  a few ears behind - so we collect some and use the corn in an improvised balloon gun - I suspect that Janny used to do it as a child...

I get called on occasionally to help out - this time to play a game while Janny took some kids home :)

A couple of the day work clients have been making a "mobile chicken run". We scored an old  trampoline frame and we had a couple of wheels just waiting for another purpose...

...and one of the church groups have already placed an order for next year
