Week 49

Week 49

A slow (er) week, thank goodness!

The heavy lifting and demolition work has finished for the time being - still two walls to be knocked out - but I'm pretty sure I'll be MIA when that happens :)

New residents

We have 2 new residents, so I have to get the paperwork in order. They can apply to the Local Government for a "woonsubsidie" - housing assistance. I'm not totally sure how it works - I imagine they look at employment status and the number of kids, and much more.

We've had a few raised eyebrows from the Local Government and Taxation Office in earlier years - they do know an awful lot about what is going on in people's lives - as people have to register where they are living, in order to get any social welfare benefits, including housing asistance. Ben is also registered at our place now - not for benefits per se - but he did have to be registered in order to vote, for example.

We once had a chap come and measure one of the apartments to see if it "qualified" as a separate dwelling - and not just "sharing" a house or other space.

The important things seemed to be a front and back door and own kitchen and bathroom i.e. not shared.

I think the assistance is based on the square metres - we even had a situation where the assistance payment was more than the rental that we asked for. I can't remember now how we found that out, but it did strike me as odd at the time.

So, I provide them with a simple floor plan that they can submit with their application. Janny prepares the contracts with one very important requirement - they must be on a list applying for social housing in one or more Local Government areas.

On that note, one of our recent residents just received notification that she has a house in Wijnjewoude - there was a recent rule change that "local" people have preference on the housing list so she only had to wait a few months instead of years.

Amazing Crumpets

I finally made time to make these from the new book...planning another lot today - and some pies made from my winter stew...a quiet weekend, indeed.

Meat pies coming up...

On Thursday...

...we went to the local restaurant for our Christmas Lunch with the Day Activity clients - we were missing two, but we added Janny's Mum! We haven't been able to do it for a couple of (Covid) years...Covid is largely ignored now, although there still seems to be a lot of it around.

His taxi was supposed to cost €22,00 (8900 pesos) but his credit card only showed €9,00
